Role Summary
Under the general supervision of the Field Operations Manager and the Meals on Wheels Coordinator, the Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and caring delivery of meals to homebound seniors across our service area. This role is part of our frontline mission—drivers are often the only person a client sees that day.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Count, pack, and load meals each morning in preparation for delivery
- Drive an agency vehicle to deliver meals safely and on time along assigned routes
- Conduct a basic wellness check at each door—greet clients with warmth and report any concerns to the Meals on Wheels Coordinator
- Use GPS or map-reading to navigate client homes efficiently
- Maintain accurate vehicle mileage logs and meal delivery logs; submit when required
- Perform daily vehicle checks (oil, fuel, tires, registration, inspection) and keep the vehicle clean
- Notify the Meals on Wheels Coordinator and/or Field Operations Manager when the agency vehicle needs service
- Attend required staff training and in-service workshops
- Support additional duties as needed
Qualifications & Skills
- Valid Texas Driver’s License and an excellent driving record
- Must pass drug screening and criminal background check
- Insurable in the State of Texas
- Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with seniors and the public
- Reliable, dependable, and adaptable to schedule or route changes
- CPR and First Aid Certification required (may be obtained after hire)
Physical Demands
This role requires frequent standing, walking, and use of hands. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
