Through scholarships, grants, and educational programs, LEAF aims to empower students and educators to reach their full potential.

Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team. The Bookkeeping Specialist will be responsible for managing the financial records of the foundation, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with financial regulations. This role plays a critical part in supporting LEAF's mission by maintaining financial stability and transparency. This is a contract position, and compensation will be based on an hourly rate. The role will not include benefits such as health insurance or paid time off.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate payments and receipts
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions monthly
  • Handling of general purchases and deposits
  • Generate financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitoring of expenses
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and legal requirements
  • Prepare documents and assist external auditors with financial review and tax preparation
  • Record, track and manage event donations and fundraising efforts
  • Provide financial data and analysis for grant applications and fundraising efforts
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial matters
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or accountant, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks), Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial regulations and compliance (preferred)

 

Working Conditions:

  • Available to attend occasional evening meetings and some weekend work required.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and maintain control under stress
  • Lifting is required
  • This is not a remote role

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Previous experience in nonprofit accounting or bookkeeping role is a plus
